Many of our employees have been losing kitted material that has been supplied to them which they have signed for, is it OK for me to garnish thier wages for the lost material. Some of this material comes directly from the customer so when we have to rebuy it eats into the profits of the company. The loss in dollars is starting to add up. Can I also do this for lost tools.

in California...absolutely not. DO NOT GARNISH FOR LOST OR DAMAGED EQUIPMENT. It is a disciplinary issue. Companies can not perform a SELF REMEDY (value assessment) of company materials. You would have to prove employee negligence, which is very difficult to prove.
