| Our warehouse staff have been requesting to wear shorts in summer time, loading and unloading several containers a day are too hot and difficult in jeans or long pants. For safety reasons, top management has been relunctant to change current policy, but now with heat prevention regulation, we are sort of at lost. It has been suggested to us that we can ask staff who choose to wear shorts to sign a "waiver" stating that they liable for accidents should they occur. Can anyone give us some other alternatives? thanks.

| What guidelines does OSHA have for your industry? Our construction laborers are required to wear long pants, shirts (no tank tops) and boots even when working in the 100+ heat. We accommodate the heat with earlier start times, more strenuous work in the morning hours, or shorter workdays. Take extra precautions during the warm weather with water, breaks, adequate airflow inside the building, etc. but do not compromise measures that are in place for their own safety.
