Hello,

We have a candidate that is absolutely persistent on knowing exactly why he was not selected for a position he interviewed for. We've told him several times (very diplomatically) that he was not a fit, but is not accepting that as an answer. He's a Senior level person, but has not done the type of work that we do.

Would we open ourselves up if we were to further communicate to him the reasoning for our decision?

Thanks,
April

Did you fill the position or are you still interviewing?

If you filled the position I don't see an issue with letting him know that you went with another candidate who better matched your company's background or industry etc.

If you are still looking than you don't want to lie because they may see your job postings or advertisements. I don;t see an issue with you telling the applicant that you are still interviewing and are looking for someone with a background that better fits your industry or company's background.
