We have a sick leave policy for non-exempt staff. The first day of sick is not paid and there after is paid upto 40 hours with a Dr. note.
Exempt staff does not have the first day waiver, they can use there sick time anytime.
This is not an acrrued benefit. All staff is given 40 hours if they work fulltime as of Jan first regarless of it is there first day of employement, after that they are prorated.
This first day waiver for non-exepmt staff creates excessive call offs and makes the employee go over the absense abuse policy which in turn get a write up.
Need your Help or ideas to rectify or suggest policy correction on the first day not paid policy.
