One of our managers would like to hire an unpaid student intern. We understand that the student must be enrolled in an accredited academic program receiving credit for the internship and that we need to follow the DLSE Guidelines. We've also learned that this type of person, according to our broker for Worker's Compensation Insurance, is not covered under our plan and that we'd have to pay extra to have that person covered.

Is is clear that an unpaid student intern would not be eligible for unemployement insurance when the internship ends? Is there something we should have that person sign as a waiver?
