We have an hourly workforce with English language deficiencies. We are willing to have an outside consultant/trainer etc come in and teach the basic language skills to the current employee workforce. This will be based on the language skills they need for their jobs. They are employees currently in the positions but not performing well as a result of limited English language skills. Can we require all employees to take an assessment test to determine their skill level? the premise being then we know what level of language learning they would need. Or could that be seen as discriminating? Or should we simply say everyone is going to go through the language skills learning beginning with the same level? What are our options if the employee goes through the language classes and still struggles with their performance?
