Our company has instituted a new benefit for employees who have reached their 10 year anniversary. Those employees are given a 4 week paid sabbatical. I know that California law requires that the employer pay out any accrued PTO if employees quit. But, if we call this a ‘sabbatical’ instead of PTO, can we legally say we won’t pay out the 4 week paid sabbatical if the employee quits? Thanks!
