Benefit Deduction on Final Pay Expand / Collapse

If an employee were to separate from the company mid month (medical plan documents reflect month end termination even if the employee leaves at the beginning of the month) what is prohibiting the company from deducting the full month worth of benefit deductions from the employee?

Should we provide a written authorization that the employee signs to authorize the deduction?
