| Our small manufacturing firm sends it's employees to various outside seminars, conferences, and workshops. We believe that these training programs are benfiting the company but have no way of measuring the results. Any ideas?

| Depends on the type of training. If it's skills training, then you assess if the employee(s) is using the newly acquired skill (e.g. able to do something AFTER the training that couldn't be done before). Soft skills training (i.e., supervisory training) may be more difficult to quantify the benefits but it's still possible. A good guideline is using the training objectives & outcomes that the vendor provides, as a basis for your evaluation and cost benefit analysis. Good luck

Have you heard of ETP (Employment Training Panel)? In case you haven't, you should try to find out more about it. It's very beneficial and free-of-charge to your company. How it works is that it is the state-sponsored program, the state (CA, especially) already took your money thru ETT (employee training tax) when you do payroll. So this fund has already been pre-paid to the state. When you need to provide training for your employees, the state will use the money to pay for you. Any type of training you want for your employees.
We just recently had a consultant come in to conduct a management training. It's very good and free. If you need more info, let me know.

| also, I forgot to include - you may use it as many times as you like during the year. The consultant will come into your company to assess and conduct training at your location as well.
